Let’s explore…

Loving in the distance

01. off “The Mountains inside”

“Loving in the Distance” has a special place in my heart. This is the first song that I publicly released after many years hiding my true self as a songwriter. The inspiration came in the midst of a decline in a an emotionally distant relationship. I felt myself constantly living in the hope of it getting better rather than the toxic reality. The spacey and shimmering delays in the opening guitar sequence push forth a feeling of movement, of running…of feeling far away, while the contrast of the steady, grounded guitar riff reflects a beating heart present in the moment.

Coincidentally, I released the song right before the world shut down in the 2020 pandemic; it became an anthem for the absence of human connection and the yearning for it. I soon learned that in writing the song I was in fact yearning for a closer connection to myself, and in writing this song I found it, as it jet-setted my music into a public sphere for the first time.

Loving in the Distance

You surround me in a million ways but

You cannot hold me at all

I just want to take a piece of your light

And hold it in my soul

When a hand reaches through the fog,

You hold on

I can see us now,

We're running in the distance,

Loving in the distance

And when the lights go down low,

I see your glow

But you don't let your colors show

You complete me

A million ways, a million times, in a million moments,

That never cross your mind

You keep circling over again,

And over again, 'till you

Can only pretend

When the light breaks through the dawn

You hold on

I can see us now,

We're running in the distance,

Loving in the distance

And when the lights go down low,

I see your glow

But you don't let your colors show

I can see us now,

We're running in the distance,

Loving in the distance

And when the lights go down low,

I see your glow

But you don't let your colors show
