Recording

Having been a “bedroom” recording artist all of my life, I really wanted to spread my wings and collaborate. I reached out to a local recording studio 22nd Dimension (@22nddimension) in Pomona, CA. Chris Maciel, who runs 22nd, recorded “Numb” in a one-day time frame, including a live session filmed with video. The experience was surreal for me, being around all of this amazing vintage gear and getting to see my vision fully come to light.

Special thanks to my band members, Audrey Hazel Ruiz on drums (@littlefuckinsister), Michael Martinez on lead guitar (@magic_mikrophone), and Jesus Nieto on bass (@itschuo)

For the theme or vision of the song, I was trying to think of what a good, tangible metaphor would be for feeling numb. At first I was thinking of maybe “cold” or “snow” imagery, but I felt like that was too literal. Upon waking up one morning, I had a vision of wearing 3D glasses. Then it hit me: watching a “movie” of your own life would be a great metaphor for disassociating.

I reached out to a local independent cinema called the Frida in Santa Ana, CA to shoot the cover photo/ imagery for “Numb.” I collaborated with an amazing photographer I met at a show I had played, Carlos Garcia (@carlos360nm). The photos turned out better than I had hoped! Here are some of the images:
